Are You Making This Mistake In Your Fitness Business?
Tuesday, January 27th, 2009Hi Folks,
I had a very frustrating experience on the long weekend and it made me think of the Fitness Businesses that might be making the same mistake.
I was driving with my fiancé’ (after 7 years we think we are ready), and our beautiful ‘Goldie’ Pickles, to a campsite in the hills surrounding Perth. We chose this place because it is close to a river and we thought we might need a dip because it was forecast to be 40 degrees! We had a very nice 50 minute drive before we reached the turnoff to the campsite. Pickles was frothing at the mouth because she could smell the bush (animals) and was excited to get out there amongst it.
In W.A it is a real challenge to camp with a dog as most caravan parks don’t allow them or they have to be tied up all the time and the campsites are often in National Parks so they are ‘no go’ zones for pets. That’s why we had specifically chosen Gooralong Campsite because it is dog friendly.
This is where it got ugly? As we pulled in to the turnoff, there was a solid steel boom gate across the track… Locked! We had a crack at opening it without success, so we headed back to the town of Jarrahdale to find out what was going on. The simple, short reply was that “it’s closed”. That’s it. We ended up, after checking out some other skanky campsites, going home feeling frustrated and ripped off.
Now here is my point:
How many of us as Fitness Businesses are available for our Potential Clients (prospects) when ‘they’ want to contact us, or even better, use our services? I know from my experience that a lot of us don’t have systems in place to capture the contact details of say a ‘walk in’ or someone who has gone to the website, couldn’t find what they wanted in the first 30 seconds, so went somewhere else. I know when it was just me in the business, I would close for a couple of hours from 12 to 3pm - how many people did I miss talking to etc. because I was closed?
I learn’t a very valuable saying when I was involved with another company, “The Fortune Is In The Follow-Up!” Not a truer word has been spoken, especially in our industry where the personal touch is crucial. When you have effective systems in your fitness business every lead gets followed up quickly and efficiently and you maximise all of your marketing.
Do you have the systems in place to handle every enquiry quickly?
Are you running a real fitness business that can operate without you?
If you want to check out some done-for-you systems and tools, then go to our new web store at
Look forward to helping you take your business to the next level.
